Communication with Parents
All primary schools in the catchment area will be visited by the principal or teachers in January to inform the pupils of our "Open Afternoon".
This will enable you to see for yourself the facilities on offer in the school.
This year the "Open Afternoon" will take place on Thursday 19th of November 2009 from 4.30 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. All students accompanied by their parents/guardians are very welcome to see the facilities on offer before deciding on their choice of post-primary school.
Enrolment will take place the following week during school hours or later by appointment.
The parents and the primary schools will be informed of the dates of the entrance examination for all those students who have enrolled.
The entrance examination/assessment tests will take place towards the end of April / early May.
The results of the examination and tests will be sent to the parents and to the schools subsequently.
Parents will then receive details of class allocation, book loan scheme, locker scheme, school calendar and event list as well as a booklet of introductory guidelines for all parents of incoming first year students.
Each student is expected to present himself/herself for class each day in full school uniform. This expectation is supported by the Parents’ Association.
The uniform is as follows:
Boys: Dark grey slacks, grey shirt, school tie and wine jumper emblazoned with the school crest
Girls: Dark grey, skirt or slacks, grey shirt, school tie and wine jumper emblazoned with the school crest
The uniform is available from our official supplier, Don Murray Outfitters, South Main Street, Bandon.
Sanctions are imposed on students failing to present themselves in school uniform. Parents are contacted with a view to having the matter sorted as soon as possible.

In the event of a breach of the Code of Discipline, St. Brogan’s College operates a five-tier procedure involving, in order of gravity, the subject teacher, the class tutor, the year head, the discipline coordinator, the principal/deputy principal.
The discipline system at the school is not meant to be a penal system but rather a pastoral care system where students are offered assistance to achieve agreed goals of good behaviour over a period of time. It is a policy of inclusion rather than exclusion
In summary, the School Rules cover a number of broad areas of concern. Some of the rules relate to attendance at school, punctuality, school uniform, health and safety issues, care of school property, preparation for class, homework, in-class behaviour, mobile phones, bullying, etc. A parent/guardian signs a School Rules document: ‘I agree to accept these rules as laid out for my child.’
