Partnership: Partnership is essential in the smooth running of any organisation or business. At St. Brogan's College we have exceptionally strong links with all of our partners in Eduction. The main partners are described briefly below.
St. Brogan’s College enjoys the support of a vibrant and hard-working Parents’ Association. It meets regularly at the school, consults with the school principal and is very proactive in its work for the betterment of the school. Officers are elected each year at its Annual General Meeting to which all parents are invited.
Long before a Students’ Council body became a statutory requirement, management at St. Brogan’s College saw the benefits of such an elected body. The Students’ Council is led by a President, usually a 5th Year, and a number of officers are appointed to various portfolios such as charities, sport, environment, etc. All class groups are represented on the Students’ Council. The Council makes a significant contribution to the school through its various activities and it consults with the principal on issues of mutual concern.
It is the duty of the board ‘to manage the school on behalf of the patron and for the benefit of the students and their parents and to provide or cause to be provided an appropriate education for each student at the school.’ [Education Act 1998] The Board of Management at St. Brogan’s College plays a very important role and has a number of specific functions, such as, monitor the school budget/expenditure, deal with serious discipline problems, process applications from outside bodies, oversee the purchase of equipment, adult education programme, educational tours, school closures/holidays, make recommendations at Vocational Education Committee[VEC] meetings on the needs of the school. The school principal is secretary to the board which has two parents’ representatives, two staff representatives, three representatives from the Cork County VEC, and one community representative.
County Cork Vocational Education Committee
is a statutory authority which provides education and training
throughout Cork County in accordance with the Vocational Education Acts
1930-2001 and the Education Act 1998.
County Cork VEC is one of the largest schemes in the country, providing
an extensive range of educational services from second-level education
across 22 schools and colleges to Youthreach, Adult Basic Learning and
Outdoor Education. They also administer schemes such as Student
Grants/Scholarships and Schools' Transport.
